What sort of domain names gives somebody an edge over their competitors? How do you recognize a good domain name?

To start with an excellent domain name is the one that is easily remembered from a casual conversation at some party. Names like Amazon.com, Yahoo or Google. Notice that those particular online businesses took off in a hurry. An easy-to-remember name means that you do not have to spend a fortune advertising it so that people start to recognize and remember it.

Notice something else about the domain names that I have just mentioned? They are all short. Always remember that many of your visitors may have to key in your name to get to your address, many others will at least have to key it into a search engine. Domain names that are difficult to spell or contain the letters X and Z in some difficult to pronounce, let alone remember jargon, will not work not work out too well.
