The process of tracking email is amazingly simple and is basically divided into two steps that you have to take to get the information you seek. The second and final step will be to look up the location of the IP address you will find.

You will need to log into your account and open the email in question. Take a closer look at the right of your “Reply” link and you will see a down arrow and out of the options that will appear, select “show original from the list.” You will see a lot of text. You will now need to carefully look for the lines of text that start with “Received: from”. The first thing you will notice is that there are several of them in the header. The reason for this is that the message header here contains all the IP addresses of every server involved in routing the specific email you are tracking. So the “received from” that is furthest down the list is the IP address of the computer that originally sent the email.

To find out exactly where that originating IP address is, all you need to do is perform a location look up on the IP address. Just go to IP2Location or Geobytes IP locater and follow the simple instructions on how to do this.
