osCommerce - Installation Steps

To setup your osCommerce store, first you will need to install the application. Follow these easy steps to get started. (These five steps are specific to shared web hosting clients.)

Note: If you are transferring a domain to Website Source, be sure that the domain transfer process is complete and your DNS is pointing correctly to our nameservers before attempting to utilize osCommerce. For more information on domain transfer, please visit this page.

Step 1:

After you establish your web hosting account with Website Source, you will receive a "welcome email" with a link that you can use to login to your control panel. Or, you can click the "login" icon on the top right-hand corner of this page. Let's get started. Login to your web hosting control panel and scroll down to the E-Commerce section. Then, click the osCommerce icon to begin the installation process.

 

Step 2:

From here, you will see the database screen. Select from the existing MySQL databases or create a new one to be used for your on-line shop. Select from the existing MySQL DB users or create a new one to manage your osCommerce DB with.

 

Step 3:

This is where you will name your database and provide a description.

 

Step 4:

This is where you will setup the user and provide a unique, original password.

 

Step 5:

Next you will see a screen at which you will edit, upgrade, or administer your osCommerce store. osCommerce is now installed.

• The "admin" icon is where you will go to begin the administration of your store.
• The "e-shop" icon is where you will go to view your online store.

After you click these icons a new window will open in your browser. Add these links to your bookmarks as you will visit these two addresses often during the setup process of your ecommerce store.
