| With our Basic
Hosting Plan or higher you can either share our security
certificate, or purchase your own. We suggest purchasing
either a Verisign or Thawte certificate. Both work basically the same way.
When you have decided which certificate
you would like to purchase, please contact
us. We will help you through the steps of setting
up your very own certificate.
Q: What is the secure URL that I will be
using if I decide to share Web Site Source's secure certificate?
A: Note: In order to use our Secure
Server you must have the Basic Plan or higher.
The first thing you must find
out is on which server your domain resides. To find
this information, please go to your control panel and
click on 'Account management'. You will see something
like host5.websitesource.com under the heading of "Hosting
Server".
Q: How do I call files securely?
A: All you have to do in order to call your
file securely using our Secure Server is to create your
file as you would normally but call it using the following
secure address: https://yourservername/yourdomainname/yourfile.html
Note: Do not include the .com in your domain name
of this URL.
Yourfile.html should be in
your /www directory. If you want to call a file in a directory
below your /www directory, just make the necessary changes
to the address ie https://youservername/yourdomainname/yourdirectory/yourfile.html
If you have questions about
what Secure Server address you should be using just go
to our Help Desk at:

SSL (Secure Socket Layer) allows users to
collect data such as credit card information in a secure
environment. Information submitted via a secure form is
sent to the server in an encrypted mode. Users may choose
to research methods such as encrypted email (PGP), CyberCash,
or other solutions for retrieving such information from
their web sites.
With a Basic Plan or higher you can either
use our security certificate, or purchase your own.
We suggest purchasing either a Verisign or Thawte certificate.
Both work basically the same way.
Web Site Source charges a $50 set-up fee
for all SSL certificates. If you share our certificate,
there is no additional charge.

- Strong Security
- Your server software is already enabled
for SSL (secure socket layer) - all you need is a Secure
Server ID to activate the strongest encryption available
today.
- Proof of Identity
- Your Secure Server ID is unique to your
URL, assuring visitors of your site's authenticity.
Free membership in our Authentic Site Program lets you
display that fact.
- Peace of Mind
- Your Server ID comes with VeriSign's
NetSure Protection Plan which provides up to $100,000
of protection against economic loss due to theft, impersonation,
corruption, or loss of use of an ID.
Please be aware that Verisign will bill
you directly for Digital IDs. Check their web site for
their current pricing.

A $125 Thawte SSL Server Certificate will
enable SSL on your web server, giving you the ability
to communicate securely with your web customers. SSL protects
all communications with your clients, so you can take
credit card orders, protect sensitive personal information,
and ensure that foreign hackers do not detect your passwords.
SSL security makes eavesdropping on your web traffic almost
impossible. Certificates are valid for 1 year from date
of issue.
Thawte Web Server SSL Certificates are used
on more than 10,000 sites world wide. An independent survey
found Thawte certificates on more than 30% of the active
e-commerce servers on the net [Netcraft]. More than 90% of Fortune 500 companies
use SSL security to protect their sensitive information.
Thawte SSL certificates are compatible with
all recent browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer
4.x and Netscape Communicator 4.x. Thawte maintains a
browser compatibility list here.
More than 90% of the web browsers in use today will accept
a Thawte certificate as proof of a web sites identity.
Older browsers (in particular Navigator 3.x) may need
a quick adjustment before they connect cleanly. Unlike
VeriSign SSL certificates, which will be rejected by many
new browsers on Jan 1st 2000, your Thawte certificate
will not change its trust profile in the year 2000, ensuring
smooth continuity for your online business over that crucial
time.
An SSL certificate gives customers confidence
in your identity and reliability. Offering SSL security
adds credibility to your online business and demonstrates
a willingness to protect customer information and privacy.
Can you afford not to be SSL secured?
Please be aware that Thawte will bill you
directly for Digital IDs. Check their web site for their current pricing. |
